You, AI, & Facial Recognition:
One major use of AI in industry is Image Recognition. Many are working on ways of using facial & other image recognition to improve operations, sales, & revenue. I hope many are also working on using image and facial recognition to improve customer experience & to create ‘fantastic’ online or in-store shopping experiences. For example, two possible Image Recognition and AI situations:
- Retail: What if when you enter a store (if you’ve opted in), your image is instantly recognized, your shopping history in that store comes up on your phone, & you’re directed to products of interest, helping shape & drive your shopping experience? Along the way you’ll get discounts, & with each entry, the system learns more about you. What are your thoughts about this? Do you view this as an intrusion on your privacy, or a service enhancement?
- Emotional analysis of facial expression: What if (hopefully with your consent/knowledge), at work, or in other environments, your facial expressions are analyzed running sentiment analysis? Are you happy, sad, angry, indifferent? Would you be okay with this, or is it an intrusion? What if this analysis led to other actions? For example, you’re a customer service rep & your facial expression may trigger a message on the screen.
Though both of these are hypothetical, one does wonder about the boundaries.
