Innovation or Desperation?: New Mercedes Series to Run ZOOM on the Dash
Really Mercedes? I am trying to wrap my head around the quality of a Zoom session while one is driving, hopefully with their attention on the road vs. running a Zoom session on the dash. Secondly, how is the audience going to perceive the speaker? Imagine the distractions while driving. Third: Seriously, what is the point?
Recently I sat next to a guy at an airport club, extremely loud and crazy, while he screamed to be heard and seen at a Zoom session. Every few minutes, uttering the phrase: “Hey hey, can you all see and hear me? Sorry, I am at an airport and it is very loud here!” I imagine the lunacy of seeing this guy do this while driving and causing accidents. Would Mercedes be responsible for the accident?
Important Note: Just logging on to Zoom does not mean one is present or participating, it just means we clicked on the link! Let’s participate meaningfully!
Just because Mercedes can install a screen (which most cars have), and just because Zoom ‘the app’ can run on it- does it mean we want to have a society driving cars, totally not paying attention to the road and pretending to be participating? How far are we pushing the notion of Remote Work? This is nonsense.
Mercedes-Benz AG – I am all for Mercedes pushing the boundaries for innovation and introducing virtual conference rooms in DRIVER-LESS cars, but this seems like a weak and cheap way to introduce a non-innovation — wrapped in the shroud of ‘innovation.’ Having worked closely with Mercedes in Germany, you are a great company, you can do so much more. This was not a high point! I look forward to game-changing and meaningful innovation from you!
